Hard Work of Suresh Raina Gets Rewarded

Suresh Raina is one of the explosive batsmen of Indian cricket when it comes to limited overs format, be it in ODI or T20.

Cricket news: Raina was selected for the England tour in place of Rayudu

However he has never been able to cement his position in the longest format of the game. Moreover the last few years of his career have been the worst for him.

He had a bad Ranji season with Uttar Pradesh scoring just 105 runs with an abysmal average of 11.66. However things changed totally when it came to Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy.

In that tournament he led Uttar Pradesh with his bat from the front, scoring 314 runs from 9 matches which included a fantastic century against Bengal.

Those knocks did not go in vain as he was soon spotted by the selectors and was called up to the T20I squad against South Africa earlier this year.

He was also included in the squad which went to play the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka and Raina stayed in contention for additional opportunities.

Recently he was selected for the upcoming England tour in place of Ambati Rayudu, who had previously failed to clear the mandatory yo-yo fitness test.

Raina had his fair share of difficulties but did not let those to undermine his confidence. Rather he kept on working hard to gain success and has shown everyone why he is such an indispensable asset to any team he plays.

The entire Indian team was very happy when Raina made his comeback in the T20I series against South Africa earlier in the year.

“See, with someone as experienced as Raina, it is all about keeping fit and staying in shape. You don’t teach someone who has played over 200 ODIs how to bat at the international level. The upcoming T20Is against South Africa will be a good test for him now that he has proven his fitness,” a member of the team management said to CricNext while India was touring South Africa.

“If he can show form and fitness, he could well be a vital part of the World Cup squad. You cannot buy experience that someone like Raina brings into the set-up,” the member further added while highlighting Raina’s vast experience and skills as a cricketer.
