Kohli Loses Top Spot to Smith Just After a Week

England fast bowler James Anderson becomes the seventh English bowler and the first in over 28 years to breach the 900-point mark in the MRF Tyres ICC Test Player Rankings.

Cricket news: Anderson breaches the 900-point mark while Bairstow enters top 10

His excellent bowling figures of 9/43 helped his team to defeat India by an innings and 159 runs at Lord’s and take a 2-0 lead in the five-match Test series.

His excellent performance got him 903 points as he joined a select group comprising of Sydney Barnes (932), George Lohmann (931), Tony Lock (912), Ian Botham (911), Derek Underwood (907) and Alec Bedser (903), who all crossed the 900-points mark in their careers.

Anderson is the leading wicket-taker of England with 553 wickets and the only one to take 100 wickets at Lord’s. He reached the 900-point mark since Botham did in August 1980.

Anderson is followed by Kagiso Rabada of South Africa who is behind by 21 points in the bowlers’ list.

Chris Woakes, who had a wonderful outing at Lord’s, also saw his rating go high in all the three charts. He scored 137 not out while batting and took four wickets while bowling at Lord’s.

In the batsmen list he jumped 34 places to reach career-best 50th position while in bowlers’ list he moved three places to 32nd and in all-rounders’ list he moved five places to reach seventh.

Jonny Bairstow’s knock of 93 runs lifted his ranking to 9th while Stuart Board reached 12th among bowlers. Jos Buttler reached 69th and Ollie Pope reached 125th position and have done well regarding the ratings.

However Indian skipper Virat Kohli could not take his team out of trouble as he scored just 23 and 17 at Lord’s. As a result he had to lose the top spot to former Australian captain Steve Smith, who he had overtaken just one week ago.

Ashwin’s defiant innings of 29 and 33 not out got his ratings from 67th to 57th in the batsmen list and also overtook Vernon Philander of South Africa to reach third position among all-rounders. Hardik Pandya has moved up to 74th rank among bowlers.
