Dhoni Hints about Retirement after Punjab Match

Chennai Super Kings drops hints of his and other players’ retirement may be in two year time, in the post-match conference after Chennai beat Punjab in the last league match.

Cricket news: The real test for CSK will be after two years when senior players like myself will retire, says Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings made a brilliant comeback to the Indian Premier League after their two years ban ended due to activities off the field.

The Men in Yellow had previously booked their place in the playoffs as they finished on the second spot of the points table. They will now face the table toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 1 match which will be played on Tuesday.

CSK is the only team that has qualified for the playoffs in every season they have played, and in every season the team was led by the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni.

After the 2018 IPL auctions, many mocked the CSK management for choosing ‘elderly’ players and even named them mockingly ‘Chennai Senior Kings’.

CSK answered all their critics in some style as they won their last league game against Kings XI Punjab. After the match, Dhoni took some time to thank the owners for backing the players and keeping faith in them.

“Owners have been brilliant. We have a set of people who are close to the players. They have a history of understanding the game. That makes the job easy for the captain. Also if you don’t have a good team, it becomes difficult. We kept adding players and they kept performing,” MS Dhoni said after the win.

Apart from that, Dhoni also said that CSK will face the actual challenge in a couple of years, when many senior players will have to retire because they won’t fit into the fastest format of the game. Was this a hint about MSD’s retirement from IPL?

“The big shift will be after two years, where most of these players won’t be there. Maybe they won’t be fit for the shortest format. Looking at ten years, it has been very good for us,” Dhoni concluded.
