Mike Hussey Feels Shaun Marsh Might Get Dropped Form the Australian Team

Former Australian cricketer Mike Hussey feels that the team might drop Australian batsman Shaun Marsh for his poor performance against Pakistan in UAE.

Cricket news: In the recent Test series against Pakistan, Marsh has scored with a paltry average of 3.5

Marsh has scored just 14 runs in his four appearances during the two Tests between Australia and Pakistan and now has gone 12 innings without scoring a half-century.

In the last Ashes campaign in summer, Marsh had scored two centuries and two fifties. But since then his average has been just 13 in last six Tests. Mike Hussey feels Marsh’s position might come under scrutiny when the management select the squad for the four Test match series against India in December.

Speaking to Wisden Mr Cricket said, “At the end of the day, you do need to be scoring runs. There’s going to be a lot of discussion about his place in the team. Once you start getting into your 30s, mid-30s, you can’t afford to have a run like that. Because everyone starts talking about your position in the team – is that the end of your career? – and that extra pressure builds up on you as well.”

Because of the suspension of David Warner, Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft, Usman Khawaja was asked to open the innings and Marsh was promoted up the order from No. 5 to No. 3.

But when Khawaja got a meniscal tear and was injured, Marsh was asked to open the innings. But he could not stay long as a magnificent delivery from Pakistan debutant Mir Hamza uprooted his stumps delivering the left-arm debutant his maiden Test wicket.

Marsh has got an average of 3.5 in the Pakistan series. However his lowest career average has been 2.42 during India’s four-Test series against Australia in 2011-12.

Marsh’s early dismissals has been of major concern. 25 out of 59 dismissals in Test, which is more than 42 per cent, has been in single-figure digits. But once he gets into double digits, his average rises to 60.

“When he’s on song, he’s just unstoppable and looks a supreme batsman. But then when he does start having a run of low scores, he gets into this hole and he finds it extremely difficult to work his way out of it. It must be very frustrating for him,” Hussey concluded.
