Prithvi Shaw Sets His Eyes on A Spot for 2019 World Cup

The new young sensation of India, who made his debut against the Windies in the Rajkot Test, Prithvi Shaw has set his eyes on a team spot for the 2019 World Cup.

Cricket news: Shaw won the Man of the Series award for scoring 237 runs in two Tests

The 18-year-old batsman from Mumbai announced his entry on the big stage by getting a century in his debut Test which came faster than a-run-a-ball.

He went on with his consistency and scored 237 runs in three innings and scored the winning runs in the final Test at Hyderabad. His heroics with the bat won him the Man of the Series award.

There will be doubt of his place in the team where the Men in Blue tour Australia later this year. But in the meantime Shaw has revealed that he has set his target to feature in the team’s squad for the 2019 World Cup.

The selectors dropped both openers, Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan, for the Windies series and decided to test KL Rahul and youngsters like Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal.

Shaw grabbed the opportunity with both hands and his debut century set the course for India’s biggest Test victory with a margin of an innings and 272 runs.

On Day 3 of the second Test he scored the winning runs and remained unbeaten on 33 and thus scored more than 100 runs in a Test match for a second consecutive time.

At the post-match presentation, Shaw said, “It was a happy moment for me and finishing the game for India means a lot for me. It is my first series, winning 2-0 and winning the Man of the Series makes it all the more special. Everyone is like a family; there is no senior or junior. It is a great journey and I am looking forward to a lot of it. I don’t know what is happening next, I just want to enjoy this moment.”

When asked about the next big target, he said, “I’d like to continue this, would like to keep winning matches for India and the World Cup as well.”

India will next take on the Windies for a series of 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is and will then travel to Australia for a lengthy series of all the three formats.
