Another Major Setback for the Knights of Kolkata

Kolkata’s injury woes continue as their speedster Kamlesh Nagarkoti is ruled out from the rest of the tournament. The Under-19 pace bowling sensation rose to fame as he was the star bowler of the Under-19 World Cup squad and helped his country win the trophy for the 4th time.

As a result the Rajasthan-born pacer, in his debut IPL season, was bought by the KKR franchise for a whooping INR 3.2 crore.

According to some sources at Cricbuzz, Nagarkoti had picked up the injury before the tournament began and the management had hoped that he will recover in time.

Nevertheless they had kept 18-year-old Karnataka speedster Prasidh Krishna as an alternative and had played him in two practise matches where he had performed well.

Prasidh made his first-class debut for Karnataka in 2015 where he picked a five-fer against the touring Bangladesh A team in Mysore.

He had featured in 19 List A games scalping 33 wickets and was part of the Karnataka squad in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Unlike Nagarkoti, Prasidh is not an outright pace bowler. But his tall stature and his ability to deliver bouncers makes him a promising option.

KKR has been already suffering from the beginning as one of their star bowler, Australian Mitchell Starc, was ruled out with a tibial bone stress. While the other one, Mitchell Johnson, had to sit out the last game with a slight niggle.

Besides that, R Vinay Kumar’s fateful 17-run final over in the lost game against CSK has given the two-time champions a major headache.

It is now in the hands of Tom Curran and Shivam Mavi, Nagarkoti’s world cup batchmate, to step up and fill the void.
